About

Dr. I-Yun Lisa Hsieh is an Associate Professor in the Computer-Aided Engineering Division of the Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU), with a joint appointment in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Her research focuses on data-driven and AI-enabled methods to understand and optimize the coupling among energy, transportation, and logistics systems in the transition to net-zero infrastructure. By integrating engineering system modeling, machine learning, and policy analysis, her work develops analytical frameworks that support sustainable energy planning and low-carbon mobility transitions.

Dr. Hsieh received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where her research centered on energy system modeling and vehicle electrification policy. She received her B.S. from National Taiwan University with double majors in Chemical Engineering and Finance.

She leads the NTU E3 (Energy, Economics, and Environment) Research Group, which develops scalable pathways for sustainable energy transitions by combining optimization methods, artificial intelligence, and real-world operational data. Her research addresses key challenges in decarbonizing interconnected energy and transportation systems, including evaluating the environmental impacts of low-carbon transportation through integrated transportation modeling and life-cycle assessment, improving renewable energy system reliability through AI-based wind and solar forecasting, and assessing the techno-economic feasibility of emerging technologies such as energy storage, hydrogen systems, and renewable energy integration. Her work also explores the role of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems in enabling flexible interactions between transportation and power systems.

Dr. Hsieh collaborates with industry and government partners to translate research insights into real-world applications in sustainable energy systems and low-carbon logistics. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of Communications Earth & Environment (Nature Portfolio), handling submissions in the Energy and Resources domain.

Her work has received several recognitions, including the Outstanding Young Transportation Professional Award from the Chinese Institute of Transportation, the Environmental Science & Technology Best Paper Award, and the Outstanding Scholar Award from National Taiwan University, awarded twice.
