Prof. Hsieh receives the NTU Outstanding Teaching Award (優良教學獎)

We are delighted to share that Prof. I-Yun Lisa Hsieh has received the Outstanding Teaching Award (優良教學獎) from National Taiwan University — the university's annual recognition of teaching excellence among its faculty.

Teaching as Part of the Mission

At the E3 group, education is not a side activity of research — it is how the energy transition actually gets staffed. Prof. Hsieh teaches across the Department of Civil Engineering and her joint appointment in Chemical Engineering, bringing the lab's research themes — energy systems, low-carbon transportation, and environmental policy — into the classroom with the same integrated, quantitative approach the group applies in its research.

An Education Thread That Runs Through the Lab

The award sits within a broader commitment to energy education that spans well beyond NTU's campus:

• A Ministry of Education project developing cross-disciplinary curriculum modules for sustainable energy, followed by the ongoing Green Engineering Interdisciplinary Micro-Program connecting engineering students with industry;
• Outreach to the next generation, from the Energy Thinking Bootcamp to the Student Research Showcase developed with Wego High School;
• Research mentoring that shows in the lab's student honors — from an NSTC undergraduate research grant to graduate awards such as the CAEE outstanding thesis and a stream of best-paper and poster prizes at domestic and international conferences.

Recognitions like this one reflect what students already tell us: rigorous, systems-level thinking about energy and the environment can be taught — and taught well.
