Celebrating Young Researchers: The 2026 Student Research Program Final Showcase with Wego High School

Date: June 18, 2026
Location: National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), 12F, National Taiwan University (NTU)

On June 18, the E3 Center hosted the final showcase of its 2026 Student Research Program — the culmination of a semester-long collaboration in which eight high-school students from Taipei's Wego Private Senior High School (臺北市私立薇閣高級中學) pursued their own research projects under the mentorship of the E3 team.

The event opened with a welcome address from Dr. I-Yun Lisa Hsieh, greeting the distinguished guests from Wego — including the school's Board Chairman (董事長), Principal (校長), and Teachers. Throughout the semester, three E3 mentors — PhD students Hung-Jui Lin and Chih-Yi Lu, together with master's student Yu-Ran Keng — had guided the eight students from their first questions to their final results — a program coordinated throughout by master's student Yi-Ya Yu under Dr. Hsieh's direction. The showcase was the students' stage to present what they had discovered.

Two Sessions, Two Skills

Held on the 12th floor of NCREE, the showcase was built around two complementary sessions. It opened with a round of 1-Minute Pitches — each of the eight students had exactly sixty seconds on stage, a deliberately tight format meant to sharpen their ability to catch an audience's attention and convey their project in a short, concise message. The pitches then flowed into a parallel poster session, where students stood by their boards for in-depth, one-on-one exchanges — walking judges and guests through their methods and findings, and fielding the kinds of questions that push a discussion deeper.

Recognizing the Work

The afternoon closed with feedback from the judging panel and an award ceremony celebrating the students' efforts, followed by a group photo to mark the occasion.

Programs like this reflect the E3 Center's commitment to nurturing the next generation of researchers — giving curious young students an early, hands-on taste of what it means to ask a question, investigate it rigorously, and share what they discover. We congratulate all eight students on their accomplishments, and thank Wego Private Senior High School for a wonderful collaboration.
