Honors and Recognitions

Congratulations to Shuo-Chen Lee (李碩宸) for receiving the People's Choice Poster Award at the 2025 GREENIE Conference.

Congratulations to Shuo-Chen Lee (李碩宸) for receiving the People's Choice Poster Award at the 2025 GREENIE Conference — the Green Innovation & Engineering International Conference, held September 21–24, 2025 at National Taiwan University under the theme Rethinking Engineering for Sustainability.

His award-winning poster, "Uncovering Transboundary Carbon Emissions: A Global Responsibility Analysis of the Automotive Industry's Carbon Footprint," examines how carbon responsibility is shared across borders in the global automotive industry. By comparing production-based and consumption-based carbon accounting — using the Kia Ceed and Tesla Model 3 as case studies — the study shows that the carbon footprints of importing countries are often significantly underestimated. Drawing on global vehicle-production figures and UN Comtrade trade data, the analysis traces how the emissions embodied in traded vehicles shift responsibility between exporting and importing nations. The work makes the case for a consumption-based framework that more fairly attributes emissions to the countries that ultimately drive demand.
