Research That Teaches Buildings and Vehicles to Cooperate
At the E3 Center, Yu-Shin's research asks how buildings and electric vehicles can manage energy together. Her master's work in the Department of Civil Engineering developed an adaptive, two-stage vehicle-to-building (V2B) energy-management framework: the first stage learns the diverse charging expectations of real users, while the second schedules charging and discharging under the uncertainty of vehicle availability and building demand. The result is a building that gains energy flexibility without asking drivers to sacrifice convenience — precisely the kind of methodological originality the Best Innovation Paper distinction is meant to recognize.
The First of Several Recognitions
The iCHE 2024 award proved to be an early milestone in a strong run. The same research line later earned Yu-Shin the Outstanding Master's Thesis Award from the Chinese Association for Energy Economics, and she has first-authored publications with the lab on AI-driven short-term load forecasting for university buildings and probabilistic electricity-demand forecasting — work that supplies the demand-side foresight her V2B scheduling framework depends on.
